    • Butterfly World, Dalkeith

Posted at 12:33 pm by corrinacampbell
      Feb 16th

Kid you not, I visited Butterfly World when I was ten! Not that I remember much, but I do remember there being A LOT of butterflies (no kidding right!?)

The good news is that there still are a lot of butterflies… But unfortunately not as many as normal as most are wrapped up cosy in their crystallises or cocoons at the moment!

      IMG_1442

      IMG_1439

We saw butterflies of course but there were also reptiles..

      IMG_1437

      IMG_1457

There were also super cute hedgehogs! Amazing…

      IMG_1464

      IMG_1461

So, what’s the low down on Butterfly World?

      IMG_1606

What actually made it for me was the staff. One member of staff in particular actually, who spent time telling us all about the reptiles and who clearly had a genuine love and passion for these animals. It was the end of the day and we were wondering about with a baby who, let’s be honest, would probably rather eat the animals than handle them. Nevertheless, this member of staff took time to explain everything to us, answer our questions and certainly didn’t rush us round.

I’m gutted I can’t remember her name but she was a young girl with red hair who loves looking after the reptiles ๐Ÿ‘

      So, here my thoughts…

      Venue ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
Things to see and cakes to eat next door at Dobbies..winner!

      Activities ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
There are scheduled events/activities..we saw ‘Mouse Dinner’.

      Value for money ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
It is quite pricey but I think it is worth the money.

      Parking ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
      Nae probs!

      19/20 ๐Ÿ‘

    • Beebies Brand Ambassador Application

      Feb 8th

I was really excited when I saw Beebiesย were looking for Brand Ambassadors. ย This is exactly why I joined the blogging world and I also love a lot of what they stock ๐Ÿ™‚

This has been a tough application to create.

I wanted to do something a bit different, I wanted to challenge myself in coming up with something creative and funny..because that sums me up best.

Having only been blogging for a month (ish) I knew this would be a long shot but I wanted to stand out as a blogger who is keen to try new things (yes, this is my first vlog). ย Let’s hope the risk pays off!

So here it is, my #welovebeebies Brand Ambassador application.

      Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Bump-i-licious

Posted at 10:33 pm by corrinacampbell
      Feb 7th

Don’t get me wrong, I am no glamour-puss but there was the odd occasion when I ‘worked it’ pregnant! ย Yes, my skin wasn’t great, I was knackered and I usually looked pretty pastey (due to a fear of my old vice ‘fake tan’ causing damage to my unborn baby) but all in all, it is nice now looking back at old pictures, laughing at the awful ones and smiling at the not-so-awful ones! So what’s this blog about? ย It’s just my take on what I think worked, and what certainly did not work, with a baby in your tum!

      WHAT DID WORK?

STRIPES. ย For some reason (although I’m sure other fashion gurus would advice against this) horizontal stripes seemed to work for me…and also Katie Piper who was snapped wearing the same dress! ย Yes, I was delighted. ย Striped top from Warehouse (non-maternity but stretchy!), Stripy dress as seen on me (and Katie Piper) from New Look and stripy boob-tube (under pink cardigan) and stripy hoodie also from New Look – they are clearly also into horizontal stripes!

      IMG_6116 IMG_6246 IMG_6349 IMG_6377 IMG_6910 IMG_6913 IMG_6915

FLOATY YET FITTED. ย I had be be careful in the floaty clothes department as there was a danger of looking like a circus tent. ย My Mum would have loved this as she hated anything too fitted over the bump. ย However, this is the 21st century and I believe that being pregnant and having a bump isn’t something that needs to be hidden away. ย My floaty yet fitted tops came from Monsoon and Topshop, neither are maternity wear, they just seemed to fit.

      IMG_6780 IMG_6784ย ย IMG_5803

GLAM. ย I decided not to shy away from trying to be glam, even though I felt massive! ย I had a ball to attend and so I went on the hunt for a glamorous pregnant ball gown and I was delighted with what I found. ย Surprisingly enough this dress came from the Danielle Lloyd collection – which is not usually where I would shop, but this dress was amazing! ย Highly recommend. ย I also had a work night out 4 months pregnant and found an amazing gold lace dress from Apricot (again a horizontal stripe theme!).

      IMG_6537 IMG_6540

      IMG_5652 IMG_5669

…and a wee picture at the ball!

      IMG_6660

      TACKY TEEs

I think this is like a right of passage for pregnant ladies. ย Everyone needs to embrace the tacky ‘I’m pregnant’ t-shirt at some point right? (Or is it just me?!) ย Another classic, yet again from New Look who seem to have kitted me out during my whole pregnancy!

      IMG_6736 IMG_6200

      WHAT DIDN’T WORK??

This is tricky, as I have to remember that this is the internet and I don’t want to post a whole load of truly terrible photos. ย However, here are a few that made the cut…

      FLOATY AND NOT FITTED

I already touched on this..it just didn’t work for me, nuf said.

      IMG_6186 IMG_6862

      OVER FITTED

Not sure why I thought this was a good idea, it’s just all boobs and bump!

      IMG_5717 IMG_6542

      BUMP PAINTING

Fun but not a great look. ย I know some people who had gorgeous bump painting done and they looked incredible. ย I was clearly in a mischievous mood!

      IMG_6645

WORK CLOTHES THAT ARE NOT MADE FOR BUMP

I was definitely in denial at his point, squeezing into clothes that didn’t really fit anymore and certainly, in my opinion, didn’t fit my new shape! ย Note to self..embrace pregnancy and bump!

      IMG_5486

      FINALLY

In the end of the day it is all about how you feel in what you are wearing. ย Whether that be comfortable, glamorous or smart, or even just yourself in your new pregnancy body. ย Looking back at all these pictures makes me smile. ย I didn’t really appreciate what an amazing time it was (I felt rotten!) but remembering pregnancy and seeing myย bump makes me proud…and a little broodie again – eek!

    • Why is she crying??

Posted at 11:29 pm by corrinacampbell
      Feb 6th

      IMG_1283

      “Why is she crying??”

I get asked this A LOT and often these are the suggested reasons..

      1. “She needs fed.”
This is my husbands favourite. She’s crying so she MUST need fed – right? Let’s be honest, what he’s really saying is, “She’s crying and I don’t like it, take her back!”

      Crying baby

      2. “She’s teething.”
She appears to have been teething since birth…that’s all I have to say in this.

      IMG_1313

      3. “It’s a growth spurt.”
      * See point No 2. At least this is factually accurate as she has certainly been growing since birth!

      IMG_1314

      3. “It’s a developmental leap!”
Yes, I’ve read the Wonder Years. I actually like this one as it means that tears = learning. My conclusion..a lot of tears = genius!?

      IMG_1315

      5. “Something brewing!?”
Yes, this is an interesting one..she’s crying because she’s going to be unwell. If these are they ‘I’m going to be unwell tears’ then let’s brace ourselves for the ‘I’m actually unwell tears’….and yes, when they are genuinely unwell there will be A LOT of tears ๐Ÿ˜ญ

But here is what I believe, and this has got me through a many “why is she crying?” questions…

“She’s crying because she’s a baby, and that’s what babies do.”

      FACT.

They all cry. Sometimes for no reason at all, and we should be ok with that.

      IMG_5951

Yes, it’s tough/draining/soul destroying/traumatic etc etc but it should be expected.

What’s important to remember is that hidden behind all those tears and tantrums will be THE most beautiful smile..and that will make it all worthwhile.

I was delighted when I saw this #linky set up by ‘First Time Mummy’ and ‘Knott Bump and Me’ as I love baby fashion and the weekend is when I have some time to myself to blog..thanks Wee Paw ๐Ÿ‘.

As we are often out and about and the weather is freezing we have been avoiding dresses and opting for trousers that can fit inside our super warm onesies…it’s snowing here!

This weekend Wee One is kitted out in her cosy Osh Kosh B’gosh dungarees, her Osh Kosh B’gosh long sleeved vest and a homemade hat with star buttons-cute!

      IMG_1218-0

I love these dungarees, especially at this time of year as they have a lovely cosy fleecy lining for extra warmth โ„๏ธ
(PS please excuse splatter stains, I took pictures of garments once worn-error!)

      IMG_1220

The long sleeved vest has gorgeous wee grey hearts and some even have twinkles that last after being washed..hooray ๐Ÿ‘

      IMG_1219

The hat was hand knitted (yes, hand knitted by a Scottish clever cloggs!!) and is finished beautifully with cute little star buttons. ๐ŸŒŸ

      And the final look…

    • How’s the dog with the baby?

Posted at 9:08 pm by corrinacampbell
      Jan 28th

      2015/01/img_0292.jpg

How’s the dog with the baby? ย I hear this question regularly as visitors arrive and the dog and baby battle for attention.

Maverick, my dog, joined our wee family 7 years ago. The deal was that I could pick the dog if my husband could pick the name. Yes, he’s a small chihuahua x bichon named after the one and only Top Gun Maverick.

My husband will tell you, for 7 years Maverick has been my ‘Fur-Baby’. ย Yes yes, I may have ‘mothered’ him slightly (let him sleep in the bed, on my lap, come with me wherever I go etc etc) but he’s so cute and small it seemed only right.

      2010 417

Even pregnant Maverick was by my side. ย I loved this dog more than anything in the world, by my side through everything and still there when I was tired, grumpy and very hormonal.

      IMG_6506

For me it was more a question of the baby fitting in around the dog and not the other way round. ย I never imagined that this love for my dog would ever faultier, not even for one second. ย But then I never appreciated that I would ever love something, or indeed someone more than my dog.

I had read a bit about how to introduce a baby to a dog, how to ensure that they would both be friends, how to make the transition a smooth and easy process for all. ย No bother I thought. ย How wrong I would be.

Arriving home with the Wee One I was greeted with a delighted Maverick, who was so pleased to see us return (with or without a baby, let’s be honest!). ย However, something had changed. ย I wasn’t the same anymore. ย I had had a section so I did not want the dog anywhere near me, and certainly not perched on what was a very sore and tender tummy. ย I then started to panic about dog germs and so poor Maverick was banished from the bedroom (into a lovely new dog bedย for the record).

      IMG_7251

But that wasn’t all. ย The tiredness and exhaustion kicked in. ย I just didn’t have time to look after a new baby and a fur-baby. ย It seemed an impossible taskย and my priorities had changed, literally over night. ย Frustration then began to creep in. ย Walking a dog and a buggy was quite a task and certainly stopping to sniff at every lamp post was just out of the question with a screaming baby who needed to be kept moving.

      IMG_7534

Yet, having now mastered a dog and a buggy, a routine which includes the dog

    • Wanted MBFF with GSOH

Posted at 6:48 am by corrinacampbell
      Jan 21st

I just read a blog about ‘When you know you’ve found your MBFF’. It’s 6am and I’m sitting in the dark with my eyes half open so apologies in advance..I’m not entirely sure how this blog will go! However, it got me thinking – so much so that I can’t get back to sleep.

Firstly, it too me a few minutes to work out what an MBFF is, I’m obviously not quite there on the ‘Mummy lingo’. So, for those of you on my wavelength MBFF = Mummy Best Friend Forever.

      2015/01/img_1050.jpg

I don’t have an MBFF..but it’s maybe time to find ‘the one’. That special person I can call my ‘Forever Mummy Friend’.

I’m quickly realising that now I’m Mum and not ‘Hottie Patottie 20-Something Party Gal’…cue bad photo…

      2015/01/img_1052.jpgfed

(I will fit this dress again one day!)

So I think the ‘BFF’ criteria has changed…pretty significantly, when looking for a MBFF.

Right, let’s get to it. What to look for in a MBFF!?

      1. Up for a laugh. (GSOH). Sometimes if I don’t laugh I’ll cry…I’m tired, irrational and hormonal – MAKE ME LAUGH PEOPLE!!

      2. Honest. Tell me if I have puke on my shoulder, or if my jumper is inside out, or if I’m being ridiculous!! I’d rather know.

      3. Empathetic. I now have real highs and real low (often dependant on no. of hours asleep). I just need to talk it out to someone willing to listen.

      EXAMPLE..
“I tried rocking to sleep but it didn’t work, and the book said not to do it, but I did it, and now I found out that I shouldn’t have been doing it which makes me a bad mum, but I need to sleep and if I don’t sleep she won’t sleep and the book says that you should sleep when baby sleeps, but I’ve got stuff to do and I’m just so tired…blah blah blah”

      4. A little bit bonkers. Well, everyone had an inner crazy right!?

      5. Lovely. Someone who I genuinely can’t say a bad word about. That I always refer to as ‘such a nice person’, or ‘not a bad bone in their body’.

I think 5 characteristics is plenty.

      Now…
I actually have a confession to make.

This blog is my second attempt. My first, when thinking about a MBFF became a bit shallow, superficial and stereotypical, which is not me or an honest reflection of who I want to be.

Having gone from 5 characteristics that would have suited a celebrity mummy (I ain’t going to be hanging with Beyoncรฉ anytime soon), I can see that while my new list is much more realistic…

      GSOH
      HONEST
      EMPATHETIC
      BONKERS
      LOVELY

…It can also be applied to anyone. I had initially thought that an MBFF would be different to a BFF but I was wrong. Friends are friends, kids or no kids. They’ll be there for you when you need them, they’ll listen when no one else will and they’ll love you regardless.

      Here’s to friends.

      The old and the new.

    • Lost My Name Book

Posted at 10:47 pm by corrinacampbell
      Jan 20th

I have been wanting to purchase a ‘Lost My Name’ book for a while but felt it important to wait for the right occasion. Since my Wee One is only 8 months it’s a tad too advanced for her. However, I was delighted to receive an invite to my wee cousin’s 3rd Birthday and so I knew it was time to make my first purchase with http://www.lostmy.name

      2015/01/img_1044.jpg

So, what’s a ‘Lost My Name’ book I hear you ask? These are the new style of personalised books. Unlike previous personalised books (where your child’s name is simply inserted into the story), ‘Lost My Name’ have taken personalisation to another level with the story of a little boy/girl who has lost their name (obviously!). I know what your thinking..if they’ve lost their name it can’t be very personalised. This is where the beauty of ‘Lost My Name’ lies. It follows the journey of the little boy/girl who go on an adventure to find their name.

      2015/01/img_1048.jpg

Along the way the little boy/girl are gifted letters from various characters, which eventually, pieced together, create the missing name..which is then how each book is personalised!

      2015/01/img_1047.jpg

For example, the elephant has an E, the robot has an R..

      2015/01/img_1045-0.jpg

      Cool eh!?

      So, how does it work?

The website is great and very easy. You simply insert the name of the child you want to personalise the book for and then take a look at the preview that is created for you.

      2015/01/img_1049.png

      Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

The book then arrives usually within 2 weeks in a cool cardboard wallet.

      2015/01/img_1036.jpg

      2015/01/img_1037.jpg

I also ordered a ‘gift wallet’ at an additional cost but in hindsight the cool cardboard wallet would’ve been fine!

      2015/01/img_1038.jpg

The illustrations are colourful and clear and the text is in a child friendly font. The story also follows a basic rhyme pattern (ABAB for those of you into rhyme!).

      2015/01/img_1040.jpg

      2015/01/img_1043.jpg

      2015/01/img_1041.jpg

      2015/01/img_1039.jpg

      2015/01/img_1042.jpg

So, is there anything not to love!? Well, not really but I do have a couple gripes.

      1. It’s pricy. At ยฃ18.99 (thank goodness postage is free) plus ยฃ2.50 for the gift wallet.

      2. Sorry-teacher hat back on. It doesn’t follow phonetically with regards to how you spell a name. Put simply of the sounds/letters that the little boy/girl collect don’t actually match the sound that is in their name. For example, the angel (phonetically pronounced ‘ay’) would be given to a girl for Alexandra (phonetically pronounced ‘ah’) in all three instances, so would really need an ‘ah’ sound from an ant or albatross etc etc. The letters are also all capitalised, but I’m pleased that this is consistent as the name at the end is also in caps.

      3. The longer the name the longer the story…and vice versa, which is a bit rubbish if you’re a Sam or a Tom compared to Richard or Melanie!

However, I like the book, I like the idea and I hope that my wee cousin will too.

      Here’s my thoughts,

      Story ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
(Clever way to personalise a book)

      Illustrations ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
      (Good but no Axel)

      Value for money ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
(It’s pretty pricey for a book)

Overall feel of the book ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
(I liked it, the pages are soft to touch๐Ÿ‘)

      SCORE : 15/20

      Check it out..
